This is the first custom gtx 1060 with 5gb vram

Yesterday we were telling you about a new model of the GTX 1060 with 5GB of VRAM memory that NVIDIA was planning to launch in China and today the first custom model based on the GP106-350-K3-A1 chip has come to light., the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 5GB Windforce OC.

Well that was fast, the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 5GB Windforce OC is the first custom model to appear in the wild so far, and it probably won't be the only one we'll be seeing in the coming weeks from various major graphics card manufacturers.

The design appears to be (or is exactly the same) similar to the 6GB Windforce OC, with its dual-turbine cooling system (Windforce 2X) , plus a back cover that covers the entire card and which is engraved with the name of the brand.

The similarities with the 6GB older brother do not stop there, Gigabyte did not want to touch a tenth the frequencies. The GTX 1060 5GB Windforce OC works with a base clock of 1556 MHz @ 1771 MHz (boost) in "Gaming" mode. In "OC" mode, the graphics card maintains a base speed of up to 1582 MHz @ 1797 MHz in boost.

GDDR5 memory runs at 8008 MHz, but the bus is reduced to 160 bits, instead of 192 bits. We had seen this yesterday and it will surely have some impact on performance, but we do not know how much until the first benchmarks of these cards come out.
