The details of AMD's upcoming X570 chipset have been leaked, giving us an idea of the first technical specifications of the X570 chipset. The leaked diagram comes from a motherboard manufacturer and shows a possible design using the new chipset.

The AMD X570 chipset is called 'Valhalla'

The X570 chipset, codenamed 'Valhalla', will be AMD's first internal chipset design used on the AM4 platform. AMD will stop using ASMedia services for chipset production. ASMedia has previously developed chipsets for the 300 and 400 series motherboards, and whether or not ASMedia or AMD will design the B550 remains to be seen.

X570 introduces an important feature in consumer desktop computers, PCIe 4.0. PCIe 4.0 is currently available on data center GPUs, such as AMD's Radeon Instinct MI60, and PCIe 4.0 compatible motherboards and CPUs will be available soon. The upcoming EPYC CPUs from code-named Rome and the Ryzen CPUs from code-named Matisse will be released with this new connection bracket.

The leaked diagram

Taking a look at the diagram, it is confirmed that Matisse CPUs will use 24 PCIe 4.0 lines. The 16 PCIe 4.0 lines are dedicated to the main PCIe x16 slots, configurable for PCIe 4.0 x16 or x8 / x8. Four lanes are dedicated to 32Gb / s M.2. The last four lanes of the total 24 CPU lines are used as a bus between the CPU and the X570 chipset running at 16GT / s. Matisse CPUs support four USB 3.1 Gen1 ports. According to the diagram, the Realtek ALC1220 and NV6795 Super I / O controllers are directly connected to the CPU.

The X570 chipset has improved over what was seen in the X370 and X470, bringing in 16 outgoing PCIe 4.0 lines. Two of the 16 lanes in total are dedicated to M.2 slots, three to three PCIe 4.0 x1 slots, one to an ASMedia ASM1143 controller, one to a Gigabit Ethernet controller, and one lane is dedicated to an 802.11ax WLAN adapter. The rest of the lines are used for storage and USB, with six SATA 6 Gb / s RAID drives, four USB 3.0 / 3.1 Gen 1 ports and four USB 2.0 / 2.1 ports.

These new motherboards and Ryzen 3000 processors would be announced at Computex. We will keep you informed.
