With the arrival of the new Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards, which are going to raise the power requirements compared to the GTX 10 series, it was necessary to introduce new cooling systems. The manufacturer EVGA has already thought of everything, with the new iCX2 air cooling technology.

The improvements to come in EVGA iCX2

EVGA's iCX2 cooling technology will debut with GeForce RTX graphics cards, and below we will review the improvements it will introduce in heat dissipation.

iCX patented by EVGA revolutionized the cooling of graphics cards from the inside out. iCX was designed to detect the 'hot spots' of the graphics card to automatically cool them using the fan speed control. All the information about temperatures, and more, could be seen from the Precision XOC application.

Lower temperatures and noise generation

iCX2 promises to improve temperature detection at various points on the graphics card and adjusts the fans asynchronously. This provides better thermal performance. But it doesn't end there, iCX2 also promises to reduce acoustic noise from fans at full operation.

The aluminum plate design was adjusted to improve conductivity by 150% according to EVGA. A heat pipe that passes directly over the VRM area is also used to quickly remove heat from the hottest area of the graphics card. iCX2 features thermal pads that conduct 165% more heat compared to the original iCX.

The fans are now of the Hydraulic Dynamic Bearing type, called HDBs, which promise to improve noise levels and expel more air (which all promise).

Refrigeration performance comparison

EVGA compares the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 cards using the new iCX against the GTX 1080 Ti and GTX 1080 respectively, the results seem to be quite conclusive. You can see complete information about this new technology on the official EVGA site.

For now, the GeForce RTX series will officially go out on September 20 and EVGA will be one of the manufacturers that will have their models in availability from day 1.
