Manufacturers are disabled ime of intel cpu in their laptops

A few weeks ago we told you about the vulnerability in the IME of Intel processors that had more than one user concerned, and also more than one manufacturer.

Dell, Purism and System76 disable IME from their laptops

For years, security experts warned that the Intel Management Engine (IME) was at risk of being compromised. IME allows administrators to remotely access a computer and has been present on all Intel processors since 2008. Intel recently admitted that there was a real risk that IME would be vulnerable to exploit . As a result, some of the major PC manufacturers are taking steps to protect users from such vulnerability.

Dell, Purism and PC vendor Linux System76 are disabling the Intel Management Engine functionality on their laptops as a security measure.

Dell

Dell is offering the ability to disable IME on the following notebooks; Dell Latitude 14 Rugged, Dell Latitude 15 E5570 and Dell Latitude 12 Rugged.

Purism

Purism is disabling the feature on all of its new laptops. Additionally, it is releasing a software update for existing laptops.

System76

Like Purism , System76 is releasing a software update for all of its affected existing laptops.

It is to be hoped that other manufacturers will also begin to take similar measures regarding this security breach that has been opened because of Intel processors, for many unexpected, for the most experts it was a matter of time.
