Facebook is again in the eye of the hurricane for having given access to private user data to other companies, such as Spotify or Apple. But, it has been revealed that they also gave access to this data to a company that has ties to the Russian government. This company is Yandex, one of the two foreign companies with which the social network shared data.

Facebook shared user data with company linked to Russia

Yandex is the largest technology firm in Russia, owners of the fourth largest search engine worldwide. Apparently, they had access to private information in 2017. Despite the fact that their contract with the social network ended in 2015.

New scandal for Facebook

Yandex has been linked to the Kremlin on several occasions. In fact, the company itself acknowledged long ago that it shared information with the Federal Security Service in Russia. Last year they had problems in Ukraine, because the country's government had indications that the firm had collected data from the country's citizens and given that information to Russia. So it is not a company that has a good reputation.

That is why it is believed that this Facebook data could have perfectly got into the hands of the Russian government. Something that is worrisome and more if we add the complicated relations that Russia has with other countries, both the United States and Europe.

Without a doubt, we will have to be attentive to the evolution of this story. It is the umpteenth scandal that Facebook faces throughout this year. But it is clear that the social network does not fulfill its duties in terms of security and privacy.
