Security experts from the company Trend Micro have been in charge of warning about this new malware. They have christened it FacexWorm and masquerades as a Google Chrome extension. In this way it manages to distribute itself. Furthermore, it appears to be related to other threats that have been distributed in the past using Facebook Messenger.

In this case, the objective of the malware is to steal cryptocurrencies from the users. Therefore, users who handle virtual currencies should be especially careful in the face of this threat. Because they could end up with a theft of their cryptocurrencies.

New FacexWorm malware

Its distribution begins through a link on Facebook Messenger. This link is usually accompanied by an emoticon with a surprised face, which usually generates curiosity and makes the user click on the link. It also seems that this link will direct us to a video on YouTube. But reality is not like that. It is a copy of YouTube where they send us.

Also, when they go to watch the video, a message appears on the screen saying that they must install a plugin to be able to watch the video. Although it is not logical, there are users who make the mistake and that is when FacexWorm manages to enter the computer.

The good part is that it is not something that is happening too often. In fact, fewer attacks are detected with FacexWorm over the days, but it is important that users with cryptocurrencies are alert. Since this malware is capable of modifying the addresses of the wallets, as reported by Trend Micro.
