Leaked the first review of amd ryzen
Table of contents:
A few days ago, performance data from the new AMD Ryzen 8-core and 16-thread processor appeared, data that seems to be incorrect and that actually corresponded to an Intel Xeon. Finally the French media " Canard PC Hardware " has published the data of a first review of a sample of AMD Ryzen.
AMD Ryzen benchmarks
The January / February 2017 issue of " Canard PC Hardware " magazine has published the results of an unknown AMD Ryzen processor known to be an 8-core, 16-wire configuration at a base and turbo frequency of 3.15 / 3.30 GHz. With these characteristics, it seems that we are dealing with an engineering sample well before the one used by AMD in the New Horizon event, which had a base frequency of 3.4 GHz and the turbo was deactivated. So we are dealing with a physical 8-core processor with quite modest frequencies compared to the quad-core Intel Core i7 models, which will be a handicap in some applications such as games.
We recommend our guide to the best processors on the market.
The processor in question has the designation " AMD 2D3151A2M88E " and has been brought face to face with various Intel processors in addition to the previous generation AMD FX 8370. First of all we have a battery with WPrime, PovRay 3.7, Blender 3D, 3DSMax 2016 / Mental Ray, Corona Benchmark and Hadbrake H.265 1080p & H.265 benchmarks. In these first tests the AMD processor is only behind the Core i7-6900K with an approximate difference of 12%. The AMD Ryzen chip has no problem outperforming the 6-core Core i7 6800K and has also outperformed the FX 8370 by 63.5%.
We move on to a second battery of tests that consists of the Far Cry 4, GRID: AutoSport, Battlefield 4, Arma III, X3: TC, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Anno 2070 games. We are facing an 8-core processor with modest operating frequencies so we can not expect the best performance in games, the results put it on par with a Core i5-6600 which may seem a bit disappointing for what we have than looking deeper. The Core i7-6900K is only about 10% faster, so AMD's engineering sample result is again excellent. Logically, the Core i7 6700K and Core i7 4790K occupy the highest position due to their high operating frequencies.
Finally we have the consumption, the AMD processor has consumed a maximum of 93W showing excellent energy efficiency and a lower 3W consumption than the Core i7 6900K. If we compare it with the FX 8370 we see that the new AMD chip consumes 38W less being much more powerful.
conclusion
Seeing these results it is evident that AMD Ryzen is the great improvement that we were all waiting for in the AMD processors, the chip has been very close to the Core i7-6900K and that is an engineering sample with lower operating frequencies which we will see when it goes on sale. It seems that this time AMD will be able to fight with Intel core to core and Mhz to Mhz. In the consumption section, the great improvement of the AMD Zen architecture and its manufacturing process at 14 nm FinFET is also evident. AMD is back.
