Firefox 48 beta adds multithreaded support
Table of contents:
After releasing the new version Firefox 47, Mozila has already announced one of the most important innovations of Firefox 48, the multi-process support that has long been in its great rival Chrome and that brings significant improvements in stability.
Firefox 48 improves stability thanks to multithreading
Firefox 48 beta adds support for multithreading, in this way it imitates Chrome and from now on each tab will run in a different and independent process. What is the advantage of this? Well, if a tab stops responding it will not affect the rest. Of course this is not the only novelty, Firefox 48 will also come loaded with improvements in security, bookmarks management and improvements in mobile versions.
In contrast, multithreading will mean a significant increase in the amount of RAM consumed by Firefox 48. Although it is not expected to reach the high levels of use of Chrome's RAM, it could negatively affect the most modest computers. Fortunately there is a workaround and the multithreading can be disabled using the "about: config" page.
