Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB is a mechanical keyboard for the most demanding users looking for the best, inside it are hidden the Gamdias mechanical optical switches, available in various versions, which offer all the characteristics of mechanical switches, but with greater durability. To this is added an advanced configurable lighting system, and a fixed wrist rest.

First of all, we thank Gamdias for the trust placed in handing over the product to us for analysis.

Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

If you look at the packaging of this Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB we highlight that the keyboard comes inside a colorful and striking cardboard box, its design is based on the corporate colors of the brand, showing between both sides its technical specifications and the main characteristics, in addition to a high-quality image of the product. The box is quite large, something normal since it is a full-format keyboard that also integrates a palm rest.

We open the box and find the keyboard, perfectly protected by a polystyrene bag that protects its surface so that it does not suffer any damage. Next to the keyboard we find a key extractor.

After viewing the presentation, we focus our view on the Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB keyboard. It is a full-format keyboard, that is, it includes the numerical part on the right. This keyboard is built with a plastic chassis, although the upper part is made of aluminum to give it greater robustness. It is built with dimensions of 458 x 220 x 44 mm and a weight of 1.1 kg. Something to note is that it integrates a palm rest, which is not possible to remove, so if you do not like keyboards of this style, you better look for another option.

Gamdias has sent us the version with layout in Spanish, something that we greatly appreciate the brand because it allows us to show you the exact product that will interest you. We highlight that the cedilla and Enter keys have the English layout, something to which you will have to get used to.

Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB includes extra functions in some of its keys, the F2-F3 and F5-F8 keys include multimedia functions, while F4 allows exchanging WASD for cursors and the F9 key starts recording macros. There are also controls for lighting on the system keys, primarily Ins / Home / Del / End. Something that we really liked is that it includes a volume wheel in the upper right.

The keycaps with the best quality, made of double injection of PBT, which guarantees that they remain like new for a long time and that the characters are not erased, something that usually happens with ABS.

Underneath the keycaps are the Gamdias mechanical optical switches, a new concept that offers the same feel and characteristics as conventional mechanical switches, but with optical activation. These types of switches should offer greater durability, since there is no possibility of corrosion preventing electrical contact at the activation point. In this chaos we have the Blue version, although it is also available in Brown, Black and Red, all of them imitate the characteristics of the equivalent Cherry MX.

At the bottom we find 5 rubber feet to prevent it from slipping on the table and two lifting legs to slightly raise it and improve ergonomics. The keyboard is powered by a 1.8 meter meshed cable that ends in a gold plated USB connector.

Gamdias Hera Software

The Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB keyboard is managed through the Gamdias Hera application, which we can download for free from the brand's official website. We can use the keyboard without the software, although we recommend its installation to get the most out of it.

The application allows us to assign functions to the keys, manage up to profiles and even assign sounds or keystrokes, something quite common in the brand. The software includes a quite advanced macro recorder, and the possibility of creating our sound files to assign them to the keys. It also allows us to configure the lighting system. Being an RGB keyboard, it offers us 16.8 million colors and various light effects, with which we can make our desktop look unique. Finally, we have a section to contact Gamdias technical support in case we have any problems.

Final words and conclusion about Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB

After having tried the Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB for several days, we can now make a fair assessment of the product. Its optical switches work really well, this Blue version is identical to the Chery MX Blue, so much so that it would be very difficult or impossible to find differences. These buttons are quite noisy and offer their characteristic dable touch, they are ideal mechanisms for typing, since it will be more difficult to make wrong presses, something that I have noticed quite a bit with respect to my usual keyboard with Cherry MX Red.

The keyboard design is very robust, it makes clear that we are dealing with a high quality product that will last us for many years, even more if these optical switches fulfill their promise of offering superior durability than traditional ones. The ergonomics is quite good, something that its integrated palm rest helps, although if you do not like to use this piece, this is not your keyboard, since it is impossible to remove when integrated into the keyboard itself.

The lighting system offers many possibilities, although the lighting is not very intense, something to improve in future versions of this great keyboard. As for the software, it is as complete as ever in Gamdias products and is very well organized, which makes it very easy to use.

Gamdias Hermes P2 RGB is for sale for an approximate price of 90 euros.
