The launch of the new graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia based on Polaris and Pascal is just around the corner, so leaks and rumors are becoming the daily bread. The latest rumor suggests that the GeForce GTX 1080 would have GDDR5X memory.

GeForce GTX 1080 if it would have GDDR5X memory for better performance

Both the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 were expected to make use of GDDR5 memory due to the fact that Micron will not be able to supply GDDR5X memory en masse until the summer but it seems that finally the GeForce GTX 1080 would have GDDR5X memory (8GB), which means that their arrival in stores would take place in late summer, probably in the month of September.

A fairly reasonable move since the use of GDDR5 memory in Nvidia's new top-of-the-range card could seriously hamper its performance, especially at very high resolutions, and would make life easier for an AMD that aims pretty high with its new Polaris architecture.

Recall that Nvidia will debut with the HBM2 memory with the alleged GeForce GTX 1080Ti or a new Titan, in both cases based on the GP100 silicon, better known as Big Pascal and that will mean the real increase in performance with Pascal.
