After it was rumored that Pascal would arrive in June, we have learned through Benchlife that the new GeForce GTX 1080 would hit the market at the end of May, launching the new Nvidia graphic architecture and new video memory technology.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 and Pascal will arrive in May

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 would arrive around May 27 with the new GPU GP104, the natural successor to the successful Maxwell-based GM204 chip. This new GPU will be manufactured in 16nm FinFET by TSMC, so a great increase in performance and energy efficiency is expected compared to Maxwell. The negative point is that the GeForce GTX 1080 will not use HBM2 memory but will mount 8 GB of GDDR5X memory, a change surely due to the low availability of HBM2 memory coupled with its high price, in this way the HBM2 memory would be reserved for the cards based on the GPU GP100 or Big pascal .

The good thing about using GDDR5X memory is that it would allow Nvidia to anticipate Pascal's arrival and lower manufacturing costs, something that does not necessarily have to carry over to the price consumers pay for the cards. Pascal's high energy efficiency will allow the GeForce GTX 1080 to operate with a single 8-pin power connector
