It has been over two years since Nvidia launched a new generation of graphics cards. In the past few weeks, we've seen a lot of rumors about the new GeForce GTX 1180 or whatever it's finally called.

GeForce GTX 1180, more anticipated than May water

Initial speculation was that the GeForce GTX 1180 would appear in July, but in the end that will not happen and Nvidia said at Computex there is still a long way to go before we see its new cards. The good news is that the new card would be more powerful than the GeForce Titan XP with Pascal architecture, so it will be a good advance in performance, and above it would be a supposed GeForce GTX 1180 Ti. The new forecast is for the new card to be announced at the Hot Chips event in September, or near the holiday shopping season in October or November.

As for the possible price of the new card, with the arrival of Pascal Nvidia changed the way they charged their reference cards by renaming them "Founders Edition", installing in them a fairly advanced and more expensive steam chamber cooling system than the one previously used. This approach worked very well so we hope it will do the same with the new generation. This would put the price of the GeForce GTX 1180 around $ 699, to which we would have to add taxes in the Spanish market, what is clear is that cheap is not going to be cheap, much less.

The most exciting part is the alleged reported specs of the GeForce GTX 1180, though none of it is official, so they could ultimately be quite different. The alleged specifications include a new manufacturing process at 12nm, which will allow to design a silicon with 3, 584 CUDA cores, 224 TMU, and a performance in FP32 of 13 teraflops, all with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and a TDP of only 200W.

A breakthrough compared to the GeForce GTX 1080 featuring 2, 560 CUDA cores, 160 TMU, 8GB GDDR5 VRAM, and 8.7 teraflops with a 16nm manufacturing process. This card would have a younger sister, the GeForce GTX 1170 which could include 2, 688 CUDA cores, 168 TMU, 8-16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM and a performance of 9.75 teraflops. The new architecture is also expected to include Tensor Core in gaming cards, as they are an essential component for Nvidia RTX technology.

So far everything that has been said so far about the GeForce GTX 1180, remember that nothing is official so we could have a surprise with its official announcement, although when the river sounds…
