Sometimes it is not an easy task to choose a good power source for your new computers and less with the great competition that exists in the mid-range. Gigabyte wants to help us with our choice with the new one: Gigabyte P650B that acquires 80 PLUS Bronze certification, a quiet 120mm fan and a single + 12V rail.

Do you want to know this option? Here we go!

We appreciate the trust in Gigabyte for leaving us the product for analysis.

Gigabyte P650B technical specifications

Unboxing and Design

Gigabyte makes a presentation in a standard size box and that the black color stands out throughout the coverage. On the cover we see an image of the product on the front of the box, in large letters the model at hand and the main benefits of the PSU.

While at the rear we have all the most important technical characteristics of the product and the configuration of the cabling it equips.

Once we open the box we find a very good protection in all the components and the source protected in bubble wrap . We will come across a bundle consisting of :

  • Gigabyte P650B power supply. Quick guide. Power cord. Four screws for installation.

The Gigabyte P650B It has a classic ATX format, whose dimensions are composed of 150 x 140 x 86 mm and a weight of 1.8 kg, totally normal for the size of the power supply of this format. Gigabyte has opted for a somewhat “futuristic” design, where its most dominant colors are black and orange. What a good looking exterior!

The core is made by Yue Lin. As expected, it has a single rail with 54 amps that offer a total of 648W. Although we believe that it would be a success to incorporate a well-designed multi-rail, which not only allows any combination of components (except strong overclocks that, EVIDENTLY, are made with sources of more than € 200 that already allow you to put it in single) but also provides the protection layer of the OCP in 12V.

That it offers all the power on the 12V rail indicates that we are probably facing an internal DC-DC design.

We find it interesting that the power supply is positioned in the mid-range and for a very competitive price range.

Internally, it has 100% Japanese capacitors that guarantee greater stability and reliability for a long time. It has DC-DC converters (something unusual in this range of PSU), two good aluminum heatsinks that cool the hottest components and a white PCB that we love.

What guarantee does Gigabyte offer with this new power supply? We have a cash of three years, which is not bad for a medium-high-end gaming team.

One of the most important premises of the company is to offer components as quietly as possible. For this reason, Gigabyte has opted for a 120mm fan signed by Yate Loon. The exact model is the D12SH-12 with the classic hydrodynamic bearing, it reaches a maximum speed of 2200 RPM, 88 CFM and a loudness of up to 40 dB. We would like to point out that at rest it has the great advantage that the fan does not click.

Cable management is fixed. This system seems like a small step backwards, since a modular cable management benefits us from assembling the cables that we need and saving the unnecessary ones. Although aesthetically it helps us to present our equipment, it also helps us to have a fast and fresh air flow.

Among all its protections, we find the certifications of OPP, UVP, OVP, SCP and OCP. A fairly efficient protection system to guarantee the best security and reliability to our system. Although we miss a TOP and an upgradeable supervisory circuit.

Without further ado we leave you all the wiring that comes standard:

  • 1 x 20 + 4-pin ATX power connector - Size 60cm 1 x 4 + 4-pin ATX12V power connector - 60cm size 2 x 6 + 2-pin PCIe connectors - Size 50 to 65cm3 x three SATA connectors in two sets. Size ranges from 50.65 to 70 cm. 3 x PATA + FDD connectors. Size ranges from 50-65-80 and 95 cm.

Final words and conclusion about Gigabyte P650B

The Gigabyte P650B is a mid-range power supply. Inside it comes quite well equipped: good cooling, DC-DC, a silent fan and capable of supporting a gaming or high-performance computer.

In our tests we have used an i7-8700K and an Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti and it has moved it without problem. We have not seen any incidence in its lines or consumption. Although we consider that the Gigabyte P650B could give very good performance with an i5 and an Nvidia GTX 1060 or an RX 580, since in the enthusiastic range we recommend a higher-end power supply.

We recommend you read the best power sources

We see the incorporation of greater protections as improvement points, since the integrated circuit that supervises them is quite basic and lacks OTP (protection against overheating), and that the management of the wiring was modular. This last point seems fundamental to us, to have the least number of cables inside our computer and thus have better cooling.

It is not yet available in online stores (at least we have no news of it) but they have told us that its price will be 65 euros . We consider that it is quite well given all its set, but for just 20 to 25 euros more there are very competitive options.
