Unboxing and design
Gigabyte has us accustomed to one of the best presentations on its products. Both Windforce heatsink versions and the Xtreme series. On the cover of the box we find the large model in hand, the second version of the Fusiuon RGB lighting system, which incorporates a windforce heatsink and is an overclocked model as standard.
While on the opposite side of the box we come across the main characteristics of the graphics card and its main rear connections. A very interesting little preview before opening it.
Seen the exterior of the packaging, it is necessary to focus on what is inside, we will find the following bundle:
- Gigabyte RTX 2060 GAMING OC PRO graphics card Quick guide CD with drivers and software.
The Gigabyte RTX 2060 GAMING OC PRO graphics card is a very solid and very well built graphics card. It shows that Gigabyte has put a lot of care in its construction.
As for the heatsink, it's the gigantic three-fan Windforce. With it we can dissipate the heat much better and have our cool graphics card. The fans have blades optimized to move more air flow and their dimensions are 80 mm.
Although it is not as efficient and spectacular as that of the Xtreme Gaming series, this design is not far behind and it must be borne in mind that it is usually one of the cheapest models that we can currently buy on the market.
On the back of the card we see a black aluminum backplate, which has the function of adding rigidity to the set and protecting the components on the back of the PCB. It has small lines and the brand logo that give a little design.
It is a shame that Nvidia continues to discard the mid-range of mounting an SLI or NVLink because the RTX 2060 could give a lot of game for much less than what an RTX 2080 Ti costs.
We stop at the rear connections of the motherboard, we find:
- Three standard DisplayPort 1.4a connections Two HDMI 2.0b connections
It is very interesting that this series also incorporates video decoding through the DisplayPort 1.4a connection that helps us to not have losses in the DSC and reach 8K resolutions at 30Hz using a single cable, or reach the much-desired 8K at 60Hz with DSC activated.
Heatsink and PCB
It is time to open the graphics card and see its insides. Gigabyte has decided on a Custom PCB very similar to that of the GTX 1080 Ti Windforce and the RTX series. The heatsink perfectly fulfills its function, as it comes into contact with all the hottest parts: memories, chip and power phases.
We can also see that Gigabyte has left a 6-pin power socket without soldering, so it would not surprise us if this PCB is reused for its Xtreme version.
Gigabyte has chosen 6 + 2 power phases to support the Turing architecture TU106 chipset manufactured at 12nm FinFET. 1365 MHz up to a maximum of 1830 MHz in Boost. This GPU has 1920 CUDA Cores, 120 TMUs and 48 ROPs, plus 240 Tensor Cores and 30 RT Cores. All this will provide us with Ray Tracing capability in real time also for the mid-range of RTX. As we have already seen in the review of the reference model we have an average of almost 60 FPS with this technology in FHD.
Its technical characteristics are complemented by a total of 6 GB of GDDR6 memory with a bandwidth of 14 Gbps. These modules have a 192-bit bus width, and a bandwidth of 336 GB / s.

For benchmarks we will use the following titles:
- 3DMark Fire Strike normal. 3Mark Fire Strike 4K version. Time Spy.VRMARK.
All tests have been passed with the filters to the maximum unless we indicate otherwise. In order to have adequate performance, we have carried out three types of tests: the first is the most common at Full HD 1920 x 1080, the second resolution is making the leap for 2K or 1440P (2560 x 1440P) gamers and the most enthusiastic with 4K (3840 x 2160). The operating system we have used has been Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and the latest drivers available from the Nvidia website.
What are we looking for in the tests?
First, the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS the more fluid the game will go. To differentiate the quality a bit, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS, but we will also have the minimum Fps in the tests that were thus possible:
FRAMES BY SECONDS |
|
Frames for Seconds. (FPS) |
Gameplay |
Less than 30 FPS | Limited |
30 ~ 40 FPS | Playable |
40 ~ 60 FPS | Good |
Greater than 60 FPS | Fairly Good or Excellent |
Game Testing
We have decided to make the leap to checking various games manually. The reason? Very simple, we want to give a much more realistic vision and cover tests with current games. We've revamped the old 2016 Tomb Raider for this new Shadow of the Tomb Raider compatible with Ray Tracing.
Overclocking
Note: Remember that overclocking or manipulation carries a risk, we and any manufacturer are not responsible for improper use, use the head and always do so at your own risk.
We recommend that you install the EVGA Precision application in its latest version, since it allows us to measure the overlcock capacity that our graphics card will offer. To monitor, we recommend the MSI Afterburner application, which is much more complete, but we recommend playing without measuring the FPS, so you can always enjoy playing. Don't you think
We have been able to overclock the memories up to 1975 MHz and the core only +100 Mhz. Performance is as expected, as we have tested three more RTX 2060 models. The chip is already giving almost the maximum it offers, we reached 2060 MHz with stable Boost and performance is poor FPS.
Temperature and consumption
The temperatures both at rest and at maximum performance are very good. We find an idle temperature of 46 ºC, somewhat higher than what we have seen in reference models, but the reason is that the fans are stopped at rest (0dB). While at Full we have 63 ºC. Excellent result!
As usual in our temperature tests we have passed our high definition FLIR camera. We can check that the triple fan Windforce cooling system cools great and we can not draw any inconvenience. Good work Gigabyte!
Consumption is for the entire team *
As we have already shown in other reviews, the RTX 2060 is a true lighter. We have 42 W at rest and 263 W at maximum power. If we stress the entire PC we reach 349 W.
Final words and conclusion about Gigabyte RTX 2060 GAMING OC PRO
The Gigabyte RTX 2060 GAMING OC PRO is one of those graphics cards that are going to be sold as churros. It has 6 + 2 power phases, a very good overclocking capacity, a very sober design that 90% of users like.
We also liked its excellent cooling capacity. It has barely risen to 64 ºC at maximum power and its consumption is very small (like the entire RTX 2060 series). In our tests we have been able to verify that we can play perfectly in Full HD, 2K and up to 4K at 30 FPS. Currently there is no mid / high-end graphics card that goes for more for less. Great Gigabyte job!
We recommend reading the best graphics cards on the market
Currently we can find in European stores the Gigabyte RTX 2060 GAMING OC PRO for a price of 439 euros. In Spain we do have the “Gaming OC” version for 426 euros, but this version has 4 + 2 power phases, although the rest of the features are similar.
Without a doubt, it is one of the cheapest custom models that we can buy and it is highly recommended for the graphics card fork. What do you think of this Gigabyte RTX 2060? Would you buy it? Do you have it and want to tell us about your experience?
