After analyzing the Gigabyte X170 Gaming 3 WS motherboard a few weeks ago with very good results, now it is the turn of the Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC with DDR4 support and latest generation Intel Xeon processors. Don't miss our review in Spanish!

We thank Gigabyte Spain for trusting the product for its analysis:

Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC technical characteristics

Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC unboxing and design

The Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC is presented in a black and yellow box where we see in large letters the name of the product and the logo of the "Ultra Durabla" components. On the back they indicate all the most important technical characteristics of the motherboard.

Once we open the box we find the following bundle:

  • X150M-PRO ECC motherboard, SATA cables, back plate, instruction manual and quick guide.

As we can see, it is a microATX format board with dimensions of 24.4 cm x 22.5 cm for the LGA 1151 socket. The board has a sober design and a brown PCB.

Rear view of the motherboard, for the most curious.

The Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC features two zones with cooling: power phases and one for the C232 chipset (Gigabyte has renamed it X150). All its components are armored with Ultra Durable technology. What benefits does it offer us? Assemble the best components on the market and the highest reliability currently on the market.

The C232 chipset is specially designed for Intel Xeon processors. So it does not allow us to overclock and is compatible only with the Xeon E3 -1200 range of servers in addition to the domestic series i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron Skylake.

Detail of the 8-pin EPS connection for auxiliary power to the motherboard.

It has 4 available 64 GB compatible DDR4 RAM memory sockets with frequencies up to 2133 Mhz both ECC and Non-ECC in Dual Channel.

The Gigabyte X150M-PRO features a classic layout for motherboards with mATX formats. It features a PCIe 3.0 to x16 connection and a normal PCIe to x4 connection. As an extension it incorporates two normal classic PCI connections. It is compatible with Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, but if you need to connect graphics cards you can only mount two AMD CrossFireX.

As expected, it incorporates an M.2 connection to install any SSD with type 2242/2260/2280/22110 format (42/60/80 and 110 mm). As we have already discussed, these devices are very fast and have a bandwidth speed of up to 32 GB / s.

Regarding storage, it has six SATA III 6 GB / s connections with RAID 0.1, 5 and 10 support and a SATA Express connection . It also incorporates a sound card with the ALC1150 chipset with 7.1 channel compatibility.

In the lower right area we have the control panel, the heads for the fans, connectors for the USB connections and the Dual BIOS.

Finally we detail the rear connections of the Gigabyte X170-Gaming 3 WS. They are made up of:

  • 2 x USB 2.0.2 x PS / 2.4 x USB 3.0.1 x Gigabit LAN 7.1 sound output.

WE RECOMMEND YOU Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 Review

Z170 platform uses 6600K and X150 Xeon E3

Keep in mind that the boards with Intel Z170 processors use the i5-6600k at 4.5 GHz, while the Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC motherboard has used the Xeon. There is little improvement, but the difference in FPS is provided by the speed of the processor.

BIOS

Gigabyte has done a great job on this X150 platform again. Since the Z68 / B85 we have seen a great evolution in all its options, offering great stability and great overclocking possibilities. Good job!

Final words and conclusion about Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC

The Gigabyte X150M-PRO ECC is a microATX motherboard for the LGA 1151 socket and Intel Skylake processors. It supports both ECC and Non-ECC DDR4 memory and is specially designed for 5th generation Intel Xeon E3 processors.

In our tests it has made the cut against higher-end motherboards. Where the limitation has been placed by the processor, but remembering that the Xeon are battle processors continues for Workstation and Servers, and their function is not to play.

Gigabyte with its X150 and X170 chipset wants to give a quality approach to workstations with Ultra Durable components (the best of the best) and with the latest technology at the best price. Currently you can buy it in online stores for a price of 110 euros.
