The Gigabyte X299 Gaming 9 incorporates the new and main LGA 2066 socket with its top-of-the-range Intel X299 chipset. Although you already know it a lot, the motherboard is fully compatible with the new Intel Kaby Lake-X processors (i5 and i7) & Intel Skylake-X (i7 and i9) manufactured with a 14nm lithograph. The motherboard has an ATX format with dimensions of 30.4 cm x 24.4 cm. Its aesthetic is very successful with a black PCB and some shiny metal details.

For the most curious we leave you a picture of the back. We have to highlight the rear armor that cushions the components much better and prevents the PCB of the motherboard from bending (which is already more complicated today).

As in all motherboards of the last decade, the cooling is distributed in two fundamental areas: the first one is the power supply phases and the other for the new X299 chipset and the 12 power supply phases signed by IR3556 and supported by Ultra Durable technology. As expected it has a total of 8 DDR4 RAM sockets on Quad Channel. These are compatible up to 128 GB with frequencies up to 4400 Mhz and XMP 2.0 profile. Although if you decide on the most basic models: Intel Core i5-7640X or Intel Core i7-7740X we will have the limitation of installing only 64GB of RAM and the connection between the memories will be Dual Channel.

The layout is very interesting both for the reinforcement it brings as standard and for its layout. How many graphics cards to play allows us to install? On the sound card it incorporates the well-known AMP-UP Audio technology with the new Realtek ALC1220 120 dB SNR Codec. What improvement is it compared to other models? Basically that the sound is much more crystalline and that it allows to install professional helmets of up to 600Ω avoiding the typical distortion of the sound and low volume.

While next to the control panel it has 3 connections for fans: system, water pump, auxiliary fans, two USB 2.0 heads and another to turn on the equipment without having to tap it on the test bench.

Gigabyte maintains the design of its Z270 and AM4 platform BIOS. Solid BIOS, with easy options to overclock and monitor the entire system. If they continue with a good line of updates they can give many happiness to the owners of this motherboard.

The Gigabyte X299 Gaming 9 is one of the best motherboards on the market both in terms of design and pure and simple performance.

In our tests we have used first-rate hardware, such as a reference GTX 1080 Ti, an Intel Core i9 7900X processor, 64GB of DDR4 memory at 3600 MHz and a SATA SSD. The gaming results speak for themselves, with the most demanding game at +65 FPS in Full HD resolution.

It is interesting to know that it incorporates a 2 × 2 Intel 802.11AC client and a Killer E2500 network card that improves the experience in our cooperative games. It also has a multi-zone RGB LED that offers an excellent experience with Gigabyte RGB Fusion. What more can we ask for? ?

Its price in online stores is around 540 euros. Is it really worth it? In our opinion, the Gaming 7 that we have analyzed on the day of the launch of the processors is more than enough for any mortal. We only recommend this motherboard if you really want the most of the most. Why do you say this? Basically because those 100 euros of differences you can invest it in a better graphics card or a bigger SSD disk storage.
