Globalfoundries advances with the 14nm finfet
After the rumors that GlobalFoundries could have problems at the node at 14nm FinFET and that AMD would have bet on the 16nm TSMC for Zen, we get more hopeful information for GF and the new AMD microarchitecture. GlobalFoundries has made great progress with its manufacturing node at 14nm LPP (low-power plus), used in the manufacture of simple and low-consumption chips like those of smartphones, so they are much closer to being able to use the node at 14nm for the manufacture of very complex chips such as X86 CPUs and GPUs.
A piece of news that means the upcoming Artic Islands GPUs and AMD's new Zen processors would be one step closer to reaching the market built with the 14nm FinFET process from GlobalFoundries.
We will have to wait a little longer to definitely know if the next GPUs and the next AMD processors finally reach 14nm or 16nm.
