Nvidia will use samsung's 14nm finfet and globalfoundries
Nvidia appears to be the latest chip designer to use the 14-FinFET manufacturing process from Samsung and GlobalFoundries. The company thus joins Apple, Qualcomm, AMD and naturally Samsung itself.
Said 14nm FinFET process should arrive in the second quarter of this year 2015 and the first chip manufactured will surely be the ARM SoC that will give life to the Samsung Galaxy S6, the next flagship of the South Korean firm.
Samsung hopes that the 14nm FinFET will give it an advantage over its rivals, who are preparing its manufacturing process in 16nm FinFET, so it is expected that the South Korean has an advantage over them.
The first Nvidia chip to use the 14nm FinFET would be the new "Parker " chip, a SoC based on 64-bit Denver cores and the highly efficient Maxwell graphics architecture.
For its part, Qualcomm is still working to solve the overheating problems experienced by its Snapdragon 810 SoC manufactured with TSMC's 20nm planar process.
