Google recently announced that devices running Android Marshmallow and Nougat would receive Google Assistant and that is already happening, in this way Pixel phones no longer have the exclusivity of this assistant.

Google Assistant now reads your messages

In one of the latest additions, Google Assistant now has the ability to interact with your text messages.

Google Assistant has begun to reach different smartphones such as the Moto Z Force Droid and even the OnePlus 3, with the ability to interact with text messages. Users will be given the option for Google Assistant to read messages, which can be requested in various ways, such as "Show me my messages" or "Do I have messages?" (Commands in English, because it is not yet available in our language). The wizard will take care of opening an interface with all the messages you have received, which can be answered quickly from there.

It is compatible with Facebook Messenger and Hangouts

Google Assistant can identify between new and old messages, and you can even request that it reveal only the last message. The wizard uses the default SMS service, which means it works with Hangouts and even Facebook Messenger, as the latter comes with SMS integration. At the moment there is no news that it may also be compatible with other messaging services, such as Telegram or WhatsApp.

Google Assistant with the ability to interact with SMS messages is not yet available to everyone and is coming first to those Pixel phones running version 6.14 of the app. Very soon it should be reaching the majority of Android phones and later on iPhone, so a battle without quarter against Siri is coming.
