Google closes schaft, its robotics division
Table of contents:
Google's robotics division has been losing presence within the company, especially after the sale of Boston Dynamics to Softbank some time ago. This subsidiary focuses on experimental robotics, although the closure of this company is now announced.
Google closes Schaft, its robotics division
It is not a surprise that it closes, because in its day, the American company wanted to get rid of all its robotics divisions, although with this company the expected closure did not occur.
Google announces the closure of Schaft
Google has barely made use of the developments and applications that have been developed in Schaft, so it somehow seems like a logical decision for the company. After investing heavily in robotics, we have seen how the American company has moved away from this division to focus on other fields. But Schaft was the only subsidiary that remained in its domain, until now.
Between 2012 and 2013 Google took over several companies in the robotics sector, including the company that is now closing. All of them, with the exception of Schaft, have been sold in the years after their acquisition. Making it clear that it was an adventure that did not end as the company expected.
No details have been given about the closure of the company, or if it is already immediate or will happen soon. But it is clear that with this decision, the American company gives the final door slam to its robotics division, a project that never finished taking off.
