Google confirms that the ad blocker will come to chrome in early 2018
Table of contents:
Over the past six weeks, multiple reports and rumors have indicated that Google is preparing for the addition of an ad blocker to its Chrome web browser. Now, the company has officially confirmed these plans, along with several new features.
Chrome will have its own ad blocker in early 2018, according to Google
According to an entry on the company's official blog, Google appears to have joined the Coalition for Better Ads, a group that offers specific standards for what ads should look like for good. from consumers (full-page interstitial ads, ads that play sounds unexpectedly, and flickering ads are all considered annoying and are therefore blocked).
In this way, Chrome will stop showing ads (including those that are served by the company itself) from websites that do not comply with the new " Better Ads Standards " from the beginning of 2018.
In other words, Google will use Chrome to cut revenue to all web pages that serve low-quality ads. Specifically, this means that the ad filter will take an “all-or-nothing” approach: either all ads are blocked if a single ad that does not comply with the new regulations is detected, or all ads are allowed if all with the new threshold imposed.
The new Chrome filter is expected to convince users to abandon the use of third-party extensions that absolutely block all ads on all websites. Google already knows that these types of external blockers, such as AdBlock, affect all those advertisers who create free content and base their income on advertising.
On the other hand, Google's ad blocker is not the only thing the company will do in this regard, as it also announced the Ad Experience Report, a tool that provides screenshots and videos to help websites detect any problematic ad they have.
Developers will then be able to forward their web pages for review once they have removed the problematic ads. To view the entire list of Google-recommended ads, the company recommends advertisers visit its new best practice guide.
