Huawei to produce two 5nm processors this year

Huawei is one of the leading brands in processor innovation. They were the first to have one at 7nm, before Qualcomm or Samsung. It seems that they will follow this path with the 5 nm, since this same year they are going to mass produce two processors manufactured in 5 nm. One of them would be Kirin 1020, which will be the processor used in the Mate 40.

Huawei to produce two 5nm processors this year

TSMC will again be in charge of producing these processors from the Chinese manufacturer. It is expected that in the second quarter of this year, production will begin.

First processors at 5nm

The 5nm manufacturing process can introduce a number of advantages to these Huawei processors. As a 15% higher process performance is expected, a 30% reduction in power consumption compared to 7nm processors. So the Huawei Mate 40, where Kirin 1020 manufactured at 5 nm will be used, will be high-power models.

Apart from this Kirin 1020, which does not know if it will be its final name or not, nothing is known about the other processor that the Chinese brand will produce in this process. It could be a processor that is used in servers or another that is used for AI, but there is no confirmation so far.

What is clear is that Huawei seeks to get ahead of its competitors in this regard, again hitting the table with its innovation. We hope that these months more news will come, either from the brand or from TSMC, in charge of producing these new chips from the Chinese manufacturer once again.
