HyperX Alloy Elite hits the market to become one of the best mechanical keyboards we can find. Its metallic chassis gives it a great finish and unsurpassed robustness, while the floating key design looks great and prevents the accumulation of dirt that is difficult to remove. The highlight is multimedia controls with a volume wheel, detachable wrist rest, and the acclaimed Cherry MX mechanical switches with red illumination.

First of all, we thank HyperX for the trust placed in ceding the product to us for analysis.

HyperX Alloy Elite technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The HyperX Alloy Elite keyboard is offered in an elongated cardboard box and with the brand's corporate colors as the main aesthetic element. The front offers a high-quality image of the keyboard as well as its most notable features such as the acclaimed Cherry MX switches, the best we can find on the market. On the back, all its most important specifications are detailed in several languages, including perfect Spanish.

Once we open the box we find the keyboard perfectly accommodated by a piece of cardboard and two pieces of high-density foam on the sides, they also come wrapped in a bag to avoid scratching its surface. Once we take out the keyboard we find all the accessories, this time we see a greeting card, a quick guide to use and a bag with additional keys and a key extractor. The additional keys are the 1234WASD which come in a gray color and a rougher texture. We also see the removable wrist rest, it is plastic and will allow us to put it on and take it off as we are more comfortable when typing.

Finally we look at the HyperX Alloy Elite keyboard, the first thing we see is that it is a complete keyboard with the numerical part on the right, something that will be especially important for accountants and users who have to make very intensive use of this part keyboard. It reaches dimensions of 444 mm x 226.8 mm x 36.3 mm with a weight of 1467 grams, it is quite heavy and that is due to the use of a high quality steel structure. The high weight will help keep it very stable on our table.

At the top of the HyperX Alloy Elite the different additional controls have been placed, on the left we have lighting control and the gaming mode while on the right we have the multimedia controls next to the wheel for adjusting the volume. The inclusion of these dedicated controls makes the keyboard bigger than other models without this part, something that is even more accentuated when we put the palm rest.

As we see the HyperX Alloy Elite has a floating key design, this means that the switches are placed directly on the chassis without any unevenness, which helps to avoid the accumulation of dust and dirt in an area difficult to clean. In this case we have the version with Cherry MX Red switches, mechanisms that are characterized by being linear and very smooth. These switches have a maximum linear travel of 4mm and 2mm for their activation point. Their activation force is 45 g of pressure so they are very soft and pleasant to the touch. The durability of these Cherry MXs is beyond question with their 50 million keystroke lifespan.

On the back of the HyperX Alloy Elite we find its connection cable and a USB 2.0 port that will allow us to connect a peripheral more comfortably. This time we did not find any 3.5mm minijack connector for audio.

In the back we find two folding plastic legs that allow us to slightly lift the keyboard for greater comfort of use if the user considers it appropriate.

The cable consists of two USB ports, one for the keyboard itself and the other for the rear USB port.

An image of the keyboard with the additional keys attached.

We go to see the lighting, as we have said before, it is red although configurable. It offers us four intensity levels, counting the off mode, and six light effects, one of them is the custom mode that lets us choose which keys we want to keep lit. As the LEDs are outside the mechanism, we have very intense lighting. We also appreciate a band on the upper part to improve aesthetics.

Final words and conclusion about HyperX Alloy Elite

HyperX Alloy Elite is one of the best keyboards we have tested, its steel structure makes it very robust and stable on the table, at the same time the floating key design looks great, although this is already something very subjective. What is clear is that this design will help us a lot to keep the keyboard very clean.

Once you start typing with the HyperX Alloy Elite the experience is very pleasant, the brand has not played it and has placed the best switches that the market offers, since the Cherry technology is beyond doubt with several decades demonstrating its good to do. The lighting is much more intense than in other keyboards that have the LED diode inside the mechanism itself, the only downside that we can put is that it is only red, if you want a party of colors this is not your keyboard.

The removable wrist rest is a great addition, HyperX has chosen the best decision to leave it to the users, never better said, if they want to use it or not. Both with and without it the typing experience is very pleasant with excellent ergonomics.

In short, the HyperX Alloy Elite is one of the best mechanical keyboards that we can find on the market, its price is approximately 140 euros, so it is in line with what the main brands offer.
