AMD Ryzen Threadripper is a really big processor, it is a multi-chip design that integrates two “Summit Ridge” dies with eight cores each. It also stands out for being the first AMD processor to bet on the land-grid array (LGA) design, which means that the pins are on the motherboard and not on the processor.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper works with the new SP3r2 socket so it is not compatible with AM4 motherboards, in fact the socket is much bigger with a total of 4, 094 pins, which is about twice the contacts of the AM4 platform. This new socket is also known as TR4.
