Imagination is responsible for the powerful PowerVR GPUs that are part of Apple devices and others like Exynos and MediaTek chips among others. Today the company announces the new GPUs belonging to its 7 series that comprise two lines to give life to all kinds of devices from wearables to desktop systems. These are the PowerVR 7XT and PowerVR 7XE families.
Both models support the Android Expansion Pack (AEP) introduced with Android 5.0, virtualization, high-quality texture compression, and full support for OpenGL ES 3.1.
PowerVR 7XT is the company's new top-of-the-range family and is intended to bring smartphones from the highest to the mid-range to life as well as car entertainment systems and smart TVs. This series seeks maximum performance and is 60% more powerful than the 6XT series at the same frequency. The most powerful model offers 1TFLOP computing power in FP16 mode and there is optional DX 11 support for models intended for Windows desktop systems plus full support for OpenCL 1.2 and FP64.
PowerVR 7XE is focused on achieving Great energy efficiency without giving up features such as tessellation or support for Android Expansion Pack (AEP).
