Intel has finally released the official data sheet for the new Intel 495 chipset, which was first seen a few months ago in the Intel server chipset driver (10.1.18010.8141).

Intel 495 will have two Premium U and Premium Y variants

Surprising as it may seem, the Intel document simply states that the new chipset is compatible with `Premium-U 'and` Premium-Y' processors. Unfortunately, Intel does not specify whether the 495 chipset is designed for the 14nm Comet Lake or 10nm Ice Lake processors. The chipset may be compatible with both.

The Intel 495 chipset uses an x8 On Package DMI interconnect interface (OPI) with a data transfer rate of up to 4 GT / s. The data sheet reveals two chipsets, one tailored for the U series chips and one for the Y series.

Features Models
Premium U Premium Y
SATA ports Until 3 Up to 2
PCIe Up to 16 PCIe Gen3 lanes lines (6 max devices) Up to 14 Gen3 lines (5 max devices)
USB 2.0 10 HS (USB2.0) 6 HS (USB2.0)
USB 3.0 Up to 6 SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps ports (USB 3.2 Gen 1 × 1 / Gen 2 × 1) Up to 6 SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps ports (USB 3.2 Gen 1 × 1 / Gen 2 × 1)
SDXC SDXC 3.0 SDXC 3.0

The chipset for the 'Premium-U' chips supports up to three SATA ports, 16 PCIe 3.0 lines, six USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) ports and 10 USB 2.0 ports. On the other hand, the 'Premium-Y' chipset comes with a slightly lower number of features, supporting up to two SATA ports, 14 PCIe 3.0 lines, and six USB 2.0 ports. Both chipsets are compatible with the SDXC 3.0 standard, which means that we can use SD cards with capacities up to 2TB. The chipset also has a built-in WiFi MAC, but most likely it also requires a CNVi module.

According to Intel, there are more than 90 Comet Lake and 34 Ice Lake laptop designs under development. New laptops should arrive this holiday season, so we'll be on the lookout for any information that comes up.
