Intel today announced the launch of the new Intel Pentium Silver and Intel Celeron processors based on the 'Gemini Lake' architecture, specially designed for low-cost computers.

Intel Pentium Silver and Intel Celeron are the new members of the family

Intel wants to help consumers differentiate their processors well at levels below i3. To this end, Intel is introducing new brand levels: Intel Pentium Silver and Intel Pentium Gold. Intel Pentium Silver processors are based on the Gemini Lake architecture and represent the low end of the product. Intel Pentium Gold processors are already on the market based on the Kaby Lake architecture.

Intel is introducing a new display technology called Local Adaptive Contrast Enhancement (LACE) with these processors. This technology will help people to see the outdoor screen clearly in the glare and bright light.

Intel hasn't commented on performance compared to previous-generation processors, but it did mention some random numbers, such as that users can work on spreadsheets, browse online, and edit photos up to 58 percent faster.

The new processors that are released today are:

  • Intel Pentium Silver N5000 for mobile devices and J5005 for desktops Intel Celeron N4100 and N4000 for mobile devices and J4105 and J4005 for desktops

Windows PCs with these new processors will be available to major OEMs in Q1 2018.
