Intel announces its new baby canyon nuc with kaby lake processors
Table of contents:
Intel has announced its new generation of ultra-compact NUC Baby Canyon equipment upgrading to the seventh-generation Core processors better known as Kaby Lake. All of them mount an Alpine Ridge controller to rescue the Thunderbolt 3 interface that had been missing in previous generations.
New NUC Baby Canyon with Kaby Lake and Thunderbolt 3
The only exception to Thunderbolt 3 support is found in the model with i3 processor that sees how its USB Type-C port is limited to USB 3.1 Gen 2 and Display Port 1.2, of course the higher models with i5 and i7 processors offer full support for Thunderbolt 3. All new devices make use of a UCFF NUC form factor chassis, models with a K- terminated name do not support SATA storage drives, so they settle for M.2 format drives. The new chassis look slightly more elegant than the previous ones and offer us the possibility of installing a microSD memory card.
Thanks to the new Kaby Lake processors, the performance is improved compared to the previous generation by 7-11%, as happens on the Z270 platform, the Kaby Lake also bring support for the new Intel Optane storage technology that promises to undo the NAND some day. Models with i5 and i7 processors feature powerful Intel Iris Plus integrated graphics with 64MB of eDRAM memory.
