According to the latest information, the shortage of Intel CPUs manufactured in 14 nm will not end in 2020, a situation that is making manufacturing partners nervous, especially in the area of ​​laptops.

This has caused original equipment manufacturers to sulk and as a result are switching to AMD's Ryzen CPUs. And for good reason too. They are faster, cheaper and more efficient. Estimates indicate an expected drop of 15% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to the fourth quarter of 2019 for Intel due to this issue.

All this despite the guarantees of Intel, which publicly admitted to apologizing to its partners for not being able to supply an adequate number of processors and at the same time reporting a 25% increase in production in 2019 compared to the previous year.

Intel expects to increase wafer production by as much as 25% during 2020 compared to 2019, but this does not appear to protect it from known availability issues. Here, therefore, manufacturers of notebook systems will adopt AMD processors as an alternative, opting for these CPUs also in models intended for the business world.

This is a dynamic that we have already seen during 2019 but that presumably in 2020 will take a completely different dimension. The upcoming availability of AMD Ryzen 4000 family processors for notebook systems, announced last week at CES in Las Vegas, should also allow notebook manufacturers to significantly expand the number and versions of their Ryzen processor-based notebooks..

In the desktop PC market, AMD was already gaining ground with its Ryzen, but not so much in the range of notebooks, where Intel was still comfortable in its leadership. With the arrival of the new Ryzen 4000 APUs for laptops, this leadership could be seriously affected, again, by the shortage in the 14 nm node and the good work of the red company with its evolved Ryzen chips.
