10th gen Intel core i3 will have 4 cores and 8 threads like the old i7

Since the launch of AMD's Zen architecture in 2017, the consumer PC market has been transformed. Before that, Intel was dominant, so much so that the silicon giant had become complacent. Quad-core processors for desktops had become the norm, and Intel's leadership in single-core performance gave them little reason to increase the number of cores, across its lines, from the powerful i7 to the modest Core i3. That changed with the launch of Ryzen.

Intel Core i3 will receive an increase in the number of cores and threads

The arrival of the Ryzen generation of processors increased the number of cores in desktop PCs and now a 4-core 8-core chip is the minimum that a modern computer should have.

That is why the next tenth generation Intel Core i3 chips based on Comet Lake-S will receive an increase in the number of cores and threads, taking them to the level of what the Intel Core i7 had before the arrival of Ryzen, that is, 4 cores and 8 threads.

From 2017 to 2020, it appears that Intel's i3 series will see a 2-fold increase in core / thread number, which when combined with clock speeds produces a performance boost of over 100% of total accessible performance. This wouldn't have happened without AMD's Zen competitive offerings, or at least not so soon. What was a Kaby Lake i7 will become Comet Lake's i3, basically assuming Comet Lake's long-term rumors are true.

Leaks relating to Intel's Comet Lake series date back to early 2019, and older leaks from Intel's i3-10100 processor confirm the base clock speeds and core / thread number seen in recent leaks of processors.

Comet Lake will be Intel's next 14nm processor series, and the entire Core lineup is rumored to have Hyperthreading. This would give the i5 six cores and twelve threads, the i7 eight cores and sixteen threads and the i9 ten cores and twenty threads.

Listed below are the leaked specs for Intel's 10th generation desktop processors.

While Intel has plans to launch a 10-core processor, AMD has already delivered a 16-core processor for desktop computers on its AM4 platform, leaving Intel behind in terms of number of cores / threads. We will keep you informed
