Ashes of the Singularity remains a popular evaluation tool for the performance of graphics cards or processors. This means that we can take a look at the performance of CPUs and GPUs before they hit the market. Recently a performance comparison between the i9-9900K and the i7-8700K has been seen with this tool, giving us some interesting results to analyze.

Intel Core i9-9900K vs i7-8700K

Intel Core i9-9900K has been passed through Ashes of Singularity, in conjunction with an AMD RX Vega graphics card. The results are putting this new processor above the i7-8700K, with quite a respectable difference.

The preset used was 'Crazy' (4K), which is not exactly ideal, since it will make the GPU the bottleneck (the lower the resolution, the easier it will be for the GPU to produce frames and the more difficult it will be for the CPU catch up), but it should be worth it, considering that these are high-performance processors.

AOTS performance comparison

The biggest difference can be seen in the Heavy Batch, with the Core i9-9900k getting about 67.4 fps, while the Core i7-8700k hits 55.2 fps. A similar story exists in Normal Batch with the i9 getting about 94.2 fps and the 8700k with a decent 85.6 fps. Overall, the Core i9-9900k averages 77.2 fps while the 8700K averages 69.2 fps. This is a very 'interesting' gaming performance difference (+ 11.5%) considering the higher CPU performance rarely translates to increased FPS.

The Core i9-9900k is the flagship of the next generation of Intel and will feature 8 cores with HyperThreading enabled (8 cores / 16 threads). Supposedly the Core i9 can reach a clock speed of 5 GHz over the air and 4.7 GHz in all its cores.
