Intel will stop selling broadwell e processors
Table of contents:
- Intel will accept orders for Broadwell E processor until May 2018
- A price reduction could be expected
It was nice while it lasted, but everything must come to an end. Intel has decided that it is time to withdraw its line of Broadwell E processors from the market.
Intel will accept orders for Broadwell E processor until May 2018
The Broadwell E family consists of four models: Intel Core i7-6800K, 6850K, 6900K, and 6950X. According to Intel, the orders for this processor will continue to be accepted until May 25, 2018, while the last shipment is scheduled for November 9 of the same year. So we should not despair, as there is still time to get hold of one of these chips, although it would not be the most recommended option right now looking at the options offered by the new Skylake-X based chips.
A price reduction could be expected
Broadwell E processors debuted last year and were greeted with mixed ratings. With only one year to live, they were replaced by the more powerful Skylake-X models. With this announcement, Intel is likely shedding its inventory of Broadwell E processors that they have been unable to sell and make way for the next generations already in place. Who knows? Perhaps we will even see some price cuts in the not so near future based on this architecture, at a good price they could be a viable option.
Recall that the most advanced model, the Intel Core i7-6950X, has 10 cores and 20 threads of execution. Its price is approximately 1, 300 euros, hopefully perhaps that price will drop in the coming months.
