Intel Discontinues Nearly Twenty Skylake Processors

Table of contents:

Intel is discontinuing a total of 19 processors (EOLs) for the Skylake architecture in the Celeron, Pentium, Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 series. All these processors dating from 2015 will cease to be manufactured, so Intel is going to focus on more modern chips.

19 Skylake architecture processors go to better lives

A large part of the Skylake processors will no longer be manufactured, while those Kaby Lake (Refresh) and Coffee Lake (Refresh) chips will of course continue to be in full production as before.

Some of the processors are mainly used by original equipment manufacturers, such as the Core i5-6500 or i7-6700, the i5-6600K and i7-6700K had already been discontinued in 2017, much to the surprise of many. The smaller Core i3-6100, as well as the Celeron G3900, still have an extended life cycle beyond March 6, 2020 due to their use in the embedded equipment industry.

Affects the Pentium, Celeron and Core series

The following processors in all price ranges are discontinued:

  • Celeron G3900, G3900T, G3920Pentium G4400, G4400T, G4500, G4500T, G4520Core i3-6100, 6100T, 6300, 6300T, 6320Core i5-6400, 6400T, 6500T, 6600, 6600TCore i7-6700T

This appears to be a logical decision, considering that Intel is having some issues with overdriven 14nm chip manufacturing. Furthermore, these processors can easily be replaced by the company's Coffee Lake and Kaby Lake chips, especially the latter, where it shares the same amounts of cores across the range. Of course, these processors will be able to continue buying while supplies last.
