- Intel Core i9-7920X - The flagship of the Intel Skylake X range with 12 cores and 24 threads
Thanks to a recent Intel conference, all the details of the Intel X299 platform with support for the Skylake X and Kaby Lake X processors have finally come to light, as well as all the details on the Intel Coffee Lake S and the HEDTs platform.
Intel X299 Skylake X and Kaby Lake X "Core X Series"
During its last conference, Intel announced that the new range of HEDT processors would be called “ Core X Series ”, so it is not known if they will have the Core i7, Core i9 or Core X brands, but there will be a total of four new Skylake X processors. and two Kaby Lake X.
Apparently, the Intel Skylake X HEDT range will have 6, 8, 10 and 12-core models, although the latter will be a top of the range and will arrive slightly later, in August of this year, unlike the rest of the models that will come out on sale next June.
On the other hand, the Kaby Lake X range will also arrive in June with two processors, both with four cores each.
Intel X299 Platform for Desktop
The new Intel X299 platform will feature an LGA 2066 socket with support for at least two generations of processors. On paper, the X299 chipset will offer up to 24 PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes, support for up to four four-channel memories with speeds up to DDR4-2667 MHz. However, Kaby Lake X series processors will only support RAM memory of dual channel and native speeds of 2667 MHz.
Besides, the Intel X299 platform will also come with support for overclocking processors.
Intel Core i9-7920X - The flagship of the Intel Skylake X range with 12 cores and 24 threads
With a total of 12 cores and 24 threads, the Intel Core i9-7920X is the most powerful processor in the new Skylake X range. This CPU will have a 1, 375 MB (L3) LLC cache for each core and a 1 MB (L2) MLC cache for each core. So the total cache accessible by each core will be 2, 375 MB.
The processor will also have a 140W thermal power design and will support up to eight 2666MHz DDR4 DIMMs.
On the other hand, the Core i9-7920X will also arrive with 44 PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes and its launch is scheduled for the month of August, one month after the arrival of the rest of Intel CPUs: the Intel Core i9-7820X (8 cores, 16 threads), the Intel Core i9-7800X (6 cores, 12 threads - the most affordable in the range), and the Intel Core i7 7740X (the fastest quad core chip in the Kaby Lake range).
