- Intel Optane with 3D Xpoint technology wants to succeed the Nand flash
Intel 3D Xpoint memory technology is highly anticipated by all PC enthusiasts, this new technology will give us access to a new generation of SSD storage units much faster than current and more durable ones. Despite the superiority of 3D Xpoint technology, Intel is also preparing new 3D Nand-based SSDs for next year 2017.
Roadmap of Intel SSDs for 2017
First quarter 2017
For February and March 2017, the Intel DC P4500 / P4600 / P4600 LP / P4500 LP discs are expected to enter mass production, their end of life will be in the first quarter of 2019.
Second quarter 2017
For the second quarter of 2017, the IntelDC S4600 / S4500 and the entry-level DC S3110 with SATA interface are expected.
Third quarter 2017
A BGA and Sata III version of the Intel 600p disk are expected for the third quarter of 2017. The arrival of DC D3700 and D3600 disks compatible with the NVMe protocol is also expected, these will arrive in U.2 format and in capacities of 2TB, 4TB and 8TB. Finally, the Intel 5430S and 5430S in M.2 format are expected for July 2017.
Fourth quarter 2017
The PCIe / NVMe versions of the 7600P disks and the Sata III versions of the 5450 are expected for the last quarter of 2017. The arrival of the 6500p and E 5400s / 5410 disks based on MLC memory at 20 nm, the latter are also expected. They will reach their end of life in the third quarter of 2018.

Intel Optane with 3D Xpoint technology wants to succeed the Nand flash
The long-awaited new Optane SSDs will arrive within the “Mansion Beach” family with 3D XPoint technology for the most enthusiastic workstations, these will feature a PCIe gen 3.0 x4 interface and NVMe compatibility for spectacular performance.
A step below will be the "Brighton Beach " with a PCIe gen 3.0 x2 interface that will seek to offer a cheaper alternative while offering outstanding performance. The entry range of 3D Xpoint technology will be "Stony Beach" disks with the same PCIe gen 3.0 x2 interface and in M.2 format.
Intel's new Optane SSDs will build on the new 3D Xpoint memory and arrive in 2016 with up to 5x improvements in performance from current NAND memory-based SSDs. These new SSDs will arrive in M.2 / NGFF, SATA-Express and PCI-Express formats taking advantage of the NVMe protocol.
