Intel kaby lake
Table of contents:
This may sound crazy, but long ago it was rumored that Intel could be preparing a new generation of Kaby Lake processors with integrated graphics signed by AMD. Finally this could materialize in the Kaby Lake-G that would allow us a new generation of very high performance graphics laptops without the need for a dedicated GPU.
Kaby Lake-G would be the new AMD graphics processors
The information suggests that Kaby Lake-G will be a new family of Intel processors with a curious multi-chip design to include the powerful AMD Radeon graphics. This design would imply that the CPU die and the graphics die are separated and interconnected with each other using the new EMIB (Embedded Multi-die Interconnect Bridge) technology. This ensures AMD supplies Intel with ready-made arrays of its GPUs so that the semiconductor giant cannot access sensitive information about Sunnyvale's designs. This interface would also allow very fast communication so that performance is not hampered in addition to providing great modularity when manufacturing processors.
Best processors on the market (2017)
The first Kaby Lake-G would arrive in a BGA format so they are intended for portable computers and perhaps we can see some desktop board with the integrated processor although the latter would make little sense since surely a more traditional combination of CPUs will be cheaper + graphics card. These processors would have a total of 4 Kaby Lake cores and a TDP of between 65 and 100W, quite high figures that show the power of the integrated graphics that would be included. Graphics powered by second-generation stacked memory, HBM2 to provide the necessary bandwidth.
In our opinion these new processors would be a serious threat to an Nvidia that has the majority of the market for notebooks with dedicated graphics, at the same time they would allow AMD to generate a great source of income given the large volume of portable equipment that would be sold with its integrated graphics.
