Intel kaby lake is on its way to manufacturers
Table of contents:
Intel Kaby Lake is the new generation of PC processors from the semiconductor giant that will arrive to replace the current Skylake. Intel has already started shipping the Kaby Lake to its partners so we will soon start to see new equipment based on the new chips.
Intel Kaby Lake is already reaching manufacturers, very soon we will see the first computers with these new chips
Intel Kaby Lake means further optimization of the Skylake architecture while maintaining the same manufacturing process at 14nm Tri-Gate. These new chips are an equivalent to Devil's Canyon after Intel has finished its Tick-Tock cycle to move to a new three-phase cycle in which we will have three generations of processors for each manufacturing node. Kaby Lake will be the last generation manufactured at 14nm before Cannonlake's arrival in 2017 with Intel's new 10nm Tri-Gate process.
Kaby Lake will arrive in two-core and quad-core versions with a maximum TDP of 95W, thanks to the optimization of the power they will offer a slightly higher performance than Skylake with the same power consumption. These chips will add support for the latest technologies such as USB 3.1, HDCP 2.2 and Thunderbolt 3 so they will slightly simplify the design of the motherboards since until now these technologies are based on third-party controllers.
We recommend reading our guide to the best processors on the market.
Important clarification from Intel regarding the Kaby Lake, the LGA 1151 socket of the current Skylake processors will continue to be used through a simple BIOS update, a socket that will also be used by future Cannonlake. They can be used together with DDR3 and DDR4 memories that support higher speed modules.
Intel has also commented on the new 200 series chipset expanding the maximum of PCI-E lines to 24, support for 5K video, 10-bit HEVC acceleration and 10-bit VP9.
