Intel has finally released a new version of microcode for its Haswell and Broadwell processors, this is intended to fix the Specter and Meltdown vulnerabilities, while correcting the problems that had appeared after the previous version of the mitigating microcode. Recall that the first patches caused reboot and other problems for users of Intel processors, especially in the cases of Haswell and Broadwell.

The situation became so dire that Intel had to recommend that motherboard manufacturers and system integrators stop using the patches in their BIOS updates. Since then, the semiconductor giant has been working on a new, trouble-free version of the patch.
This update has also confirmed that microcode updates for Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors are in beta, meaning that these updates will be coming to older CPU platforms soon. What is unclear is whether or not motherboard manufacturers will upgrade the old motherboards that support them. Sandy Bridge processors hit the market in 2011 so a long time has passed and they may not want to spend resources on this platform.
