The GRIFF overclocker has created a miracle today: it overclocked the classic Intel Pentium MMX processor at 372MHz, an increase of over 124%, when the latter's default frequency is only 166MHz.
GRIFF is now the new Pentium MMX processor overclocking champion, 22MHz higher than the last record at 350MHz. I wonder if anyone can challenge the new record again, at 400MHz.
The Pentium MMX series processors were launched in 1996 with socket 7, it used a 350nm process, FSB 66MHz frequency, there were two models in the beginning, 166 and 200MHz. Later, the high-frequency version of 233MHz was added, but due to the lower frequency, the Pentium MMX 166 was the most popular among overclockers.
This overclocking record isn't interesting now, but it has sparked the longing of gamers to overclock processors from many years ago. Currently obtaining a 100% performance increase by overclocking a processor is practically impossible, but at the time this was not so restrictive.

Pentium MMX was the first processor to support the SIMD instruction set that was widely supported by the chips of the time. This processor was also the precursor to the Pentium Pro and the Pentium II, the latter making a huge difference in performance when it was launched in 1997.
