New information indicates that Intel intends to end the " Extreme Edition " extension, which it has been using to designate the top of the range models of its main products in the customer segment, such as processors for the HEDT platform and the Intel NUC with higher benefits.

Intel's "Extreme Edition" extension has its days numbered according to an industry watcher

This information has been pointed out by the observer of the industry François Piednoël, it is still a mystery if the elimination of this tag will finally be carried out, and if it will be replaced by something. This move by Intel could also mean the removal of related items, such as the iconic Intel Skull and the black and silver packaging of its more powerful processors.

Intel currently assigns the "Extreme Edition" extension to just one product in the customer segment, the advanced 18-core Core i9-7980XE processor based on the Skylake 18nm architecture. The company plans to launch new LGA2066 20-core and 22-core processors to rival the new second-generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper, whose top of the range will offer no less than 32 Zen + based cores.

For now we can only wait to see if Intel finally decides to get rid of the "Extreme Edition" extension, which has been accompanying us for many years to refer to the best products in the brand's consumer segment.

What do you think about the removal of this extension from the name of some select Intel products? Do you think it can affect the perception that consumers have of these products? You can leave a comment with your opinion about it.
