Intel could lower the price of its entire line of core processors

Intel is set to lower the price of its consumer processors this year, according to reports from PC makers. After the huge price cuts the company made in its high-performance segment towards the end of last year, and those reported on the server side since the beginning of this year, the Taiwanese press is reporting that Intel will also make cuts similar to your standard desktop CPUs.

Intel Core series of processors may soon have a price cut

With the aggressive pricing AMD has historically labeled its Ryzen processors with, Intel has little choice but to drop the price of its own CPUs to compete with its rival. The only other option would be for Intel to launch a new and improved processor architecture… but we won't be seeing that from Intel for quite a while. At least not on the desk.

In early October last year, Intel halved the price of its entire line of Cascade Lake X CPUs. This price “realignment” was apparently carried out to ensure that users could more easily move out of the CPU range Intel's standard to its line of high-end computers (HEDT).

The real reason, though, was that Threadripper was and is better at everything when it comes to high-performance tasks that demand a fair amount of cores and threads.

And the same is going to have to happen in the main market too, where Intel's current Coffee Lake processors are having serious problems in order to compete with the Ryzen 3000 series, both in number of threads and in price.

Adding insult to injury, AMD is already cooking up its fourth generation Zen 3-based Ryzen that will be out this year with obvious performance enhancements. Intel will have to be prepared to be able to compete against this series and the price could be an element that plays in its favor with a reduction of the Comet Lake line. We will keep you informed.
