Intel is preparing a low-power processor from its high-end i9 series, the Core i9-9900T.

Mysterious low-power Core i9-9900T processor appears

In what appears to be a major engineering achievement, Intel reduced the TDP of its 8-core, 16-wire “Coffee Lake-Refresh” silicon to a staggering 35W of power, up from 95W today. in actual use it far exceeds 110W, thanks to Turbo Boost, and other performance enhancements enabled by motherboards.

This new Coffee Lake Refresh (CFL-R) processor has not been officially announced yet, but was auctioned at Yahoo! two days ago. The suffix "T" suggests that the chip is a low-power variant of the 8-core Intel Core i9-9900K processor.

The new Core i9-9900T achieves its TDP with a combination of significantly lower clock speeds and an aggressive matrix power management system. Its nominal clock has dropped to 1.70 GHz from the 3.60 GHz of the original i9-9900K, while the Turbo Boost frequency with 1/2 cores has dropped to 3.80 GHz.

The clock speed of all cores in Turbo can be a minimum of 3.30 GHz. Intel has not changed the amount of L3 cache, which remains at 16 MB, and the iGPU UHD 630 which remains unchanged. The chip has a 4-character product code (QQC0) that can be seen in the image.

We don't know when the Core i9-9900T could be announced.
