Intel's NUC Compute Element solves three problems within the Californian company's classic NUC line (cost, performance, and increased I / O capabilities), while maintaining the ability to simplify system design.

NUC Compute Element are the new ultra-compact systems from Intel

Unlike the closed nature of Compute Cards, NUC Compute Element is more akin to a Wi-Fi module with a heat sink on top. Including the connector that protrudes from the card. The NUC Compute Element is 95mm x 65mm x 6mm in size (compared to the 95mm x 55mm x 5mm Compute Card).

This ultra-compact system can house up to U series Core processors (typically 15W) and provide a wide range of performance compared to previous Compute Card models (which hit 6W). The 'NUC CE' has also been optimized for battery use in notebook computers, and the larger set of connection pins allows for more I / O options.

NUC Compute Element has allowed the simplification of the system design and has reduced the final cost. Intel confirmed that much of the engineering effort that went into the Compute Card has been helpful to the Compute Element.

NUC Compute Element, with its lower system cost compared to Compute Card-equipped designs, would prove to be more popular with original equipment manufacturers and other high-volume computing system manufacturers. In its press release, Intel indicated that they would arrive in early 2020.
