Intel delays its soc atom z4000 series "cherryview"
Intel's next Atom Z4000 Series “Cherryview” SoCs were to be released during the second half of this year but eventually Intel will not be able to deliver on its promise and the launch is delayed for the first quarter of next year in principle.
The Cherryview SoCs, which form the Intel Cherry Trail platform for high-end tablets and low-power desktops, will have slightly higher performance per cycle than the previous generation, while their strength will be the graphic performance that will be almost twice the current Atoms Z3000 Series SoCs.
At the same time, the 14-nanometer Bulk Tri-Gate manufacturing process allows for higher transistor densities on the chip, so future Intel chips will be more energy efficient despite increasing performance. Apparently the new 14nm process is the cause of the delay.
The first mobile devices based on this chip are expected to start appearing from April of next year.
