Four months after its official launch, and according to new statistics recently shared by Apple on the support website for app developers, iOS 11 is already installed on 65 percent of iOS devices.

iOS 11 advances, although not at the desired pace

This figure means that the presence of iOS in the mobile devices of the company of the bitten apple grows continuously. In this sense, the total of devices with iOS 11 has risen by six percentage points since last December 5, when iOS 11 was installed in 59 percent of the devices, and 13 percentage points since November 6, when iOS 11 had been activated on 52 percent of devices.

Compared to these figures referring to the latest Apple mobile operating system, still 28% of devices continue to use iOS 10, while previous versions of iOS (iOS 9 and earlier) are installed on 7% of devices with iOS.

In comparison, the adoption rate of iOS 11 has been slower than that of iOS 10. Thus, in January 2017, for example, iOS 10 was installed on 76% of iOS devices, 11 percentage points above the current version.

And while Apple has released multiple updates for iOS 11 since its launch in September, the operating system has also suffered from various bugs and security flaws, which doesn't seem to have helped adoption rates. Specifically, the last two system updates, iOS 11.2.1 and 11.2.2, were released to address major security bugs and flaws. While iOS 11.2.1 fixed a bug in HomeKit that allowed unauthorized access to connected accessories, iOS 11.2.2 introduced improvements for the Specter vulnerability that affects all modern processors.

iOS 11.2, with new features like Apple Pay Cash and 7.5W wireless charging, doesn't seem to have driven the adoption rate, either. And to top it off, some disgruntled users were able to go back to a previous version thanks to an oversight by Apple that was signing these versions.

Despite everything, iOS 11 adoption continues to be dramatically higher than Android adoption rates. So much so that only 0.7% of Android devices are running Android Oreo, the latest version of Android released in 2017. 26.3% are running Nougat, released in 2016, and 28.6% continue to run on Marshmallow, 2015.
