The latest security breaches discovered with Specter and Meltodown continue to speak, and as revealed in this news, it would also be affecting the mobile phone sector, more specifically Apple's iPhone 6.

Specter wreaks havoc on iPhone 6 performance

If we believed that mobile phones were going to be left out of the equation regarding the two most important security flaws in recent years, we were wrong. Specter affects mobile phones, and the cost of closing that security gap on an iPhone 6 seems too high.

Dutch businessman Melvin Mughal tested his iPhone 6 after Apple released a patch for Specter. As you can see, the drop in performance after this update is significant.

The results are revealing

The single-core scores of the Apple A8 processor plummet from 1, 561 to 924 points, representing a 41% decrease in performance. The result is no better for the multi-core test either, which drops from 2, 665 to 1, 616 points, resulting in a 39% decrease.

It appears that Apple's tight hardware and software integration is not enough to keep Specter at bay. We should be grateful that these flaws were discovered in time, but at what cost? With an Intel Core processor it seems that the performance has not been too compromised, at least in the general use that we give to a computer every day, but in the case of the iPhone 6, the punishment seems excessive.

We will continue to inform you about this problem as we have more news.
