JEDEC announces the release of JESD232 Graphics Double Data Rate 5X (GDDR5X). The new standard memories have been designed to meet the increasing need for more bandwidth for memory in graphics, games and applications.
GDDR5X
GDDR5X adds a high-speed mode of operation, which in theory can double the speed with which the memory bandwidth of graphics cards work. The indications that they show us in their presentation show us how memory is capable of increasing speed to 10 or 12 Gbps and in the future to 16 Gbps. This means that if your high-performance card currently operates at 400 GB / s, with GDDR5X this speed would increase to 1000 GB / s.
" GDDR5X represents a breakthrough in the design of high-end graphics cards, " said Mian Quddus, Chairman of the JEDEC Board of Directors. "Its improved performance over standard memories will help the next generation of graphics and other high performance applications."
More information on JEDEC: JEDEC is an association of approximately 300 companies that focuses on the standardization of engineering and development of semiconductor-based technologies. The standards generated by the JEDEC are accepted worldwide.
