The Apple TV 4K is for sale in Spain from 199 euros, while the HomePod can be purchased for 349 euros. These prices are high for many potential buyers, especially when compared to other similar products from the competition, for example, those of its rival Amazon. But the reality, always according to John Gruber, is that Apple would not be making a profit from selling these products.

Apple TV 4K and HomePod, at cost price?

In the latest episode of The Talk Show, the popular John Gruber has talked about Apple TV and HomePod prices, and debunking rumors that Apple is charging too much for some of its products.

According to Gruber, Apple is selling the Apple TV 4K released in 2017 at cost price, which suggests that the Cupertino company has a hard time making this device the same $ 1809 (199 euros) that its customers charge for it. As for the HomePod, Gruber goes a little further, suggesting that Apple is selling it below its cost price, that is, at a loss.

One thing I have heard from a trustworthy little bird is that Apple actually sells at cost price. As if it really was a box of $ 180. And you think this is amazing, it has an A10 processor that we know is super fast, it has very good graphics.

I have heard the same about HomePod as well. Why is the HomePod so much more expensive than these other speakers you can talk to? Regarding the HomePod, I really have reason to believe that Apple is selling it at a loss. I can't prove it. I don't think it's a great loss.

Remember that when the HomePod was launched on the market, first in the United States, different estimates pointed to a manufacturing cost of $ 216. However, these estimates only take into account the cost of its components, and not other essential aspects such as software design, investment in research and development, marketing costs, transportation, and so on.

Both the Apple TV 4K and the HomePod are priced higher than similar competing products like Amazon and Google, and rumors suggest Apple would be working on cheaper versions of both devices. Specifically, a “stick” design Apple TV (such as the Amazon Fire Stick TV), and a smaller HomePod.

Lastly, Gruber also suggested that the manufacturing cost of the AirPods is close to their asking price, does this mean that we will again experience a price rise with the rumored AirPods 2?
