It seems ironic that the antivirus that the United States Government is trying to ban has recently emerged as one of the best security products for Windows in a new stress test conducted by the German institute AV-TEST.

The test involved a total of 18 security suites and was conducted over six months, between January and June 2018, with tests to assess the level of protection, performance and usability of each product in part.

AV-TEST tests conclude that Kaspersky Internet Security is the best security tool for Windows

AV-TEST ensures that 13 products achieved 16 points, so they offer good protection without affecting the performance of the system. Overall, more than two thirds of the evaluated products topped the top with between 16 and 18 points.

Kaspersky's Internet Security suite was the protagonist of the test with a total of 18 points, as it received 6 points in each of the mentioned sections. Two other solutions came very close to Kaspersky, specifically Symantec Norton Security and Trend Micro Internet Security, which achieved 17.8 points after reaching only 5.8 points in the usability section.

The best free antivirus

The best free antivirus is Avast, which received a total of 16.5 points: 6 points for protection level, 4.7 points for performance and 5.7 points for usability.

AV-TEST said this clearly shows that paid antivirus solutions are better than freeware. Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 have Windows Defender enabled by default, but the new test shows that compared to third-party security tools, Microsoft's solution is still long overdue.

“Windows Defender received only 15.5 points, ranking among the last products in the table. The only thing Windows Defender can boast of is that it is better than the Comodo package after all, ”concludes AV-TEST.
