Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB comes to the market with the promise of offering great performance at a contained price, it is an M.2 drive with a slightly higher selling price than SATA III-based models, but it promises to offer a speed of much higher transfer.
We are going to pass all the tests from our laboratory to see if it fulfills everything it promises. How will it perform? To know all this and much more, continue reading our review.
First of all, we are grateful to Kingston for the trust he placed in giving us the product for analysis.

Unboxing and design
The Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB is offered in a small cardboard box with a quite colorful design, and that indicates its most important characteristics, such as the use of the NVMe protocol that allows a very high data transfer speed to be achieved.
Inside the box we find a plastic blister that is responsible for protecting this SSD so that it reaches the hands of the end user in perfect condition.
Once we open the bundle we will find:

Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB is an SSD that is built with an M.2 2280 form factor, which translates into dimensions of 22mm wide and 80mm long, this is the format used by M.2 SSDs more usual in the market, no surprise. For its manufacture, a high quality PCB with a greenish blue color is used.
This Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB makes use of a PCI Express 3.0 x2 interface, a configuration that allows a maximum transfer rate of 2000 MB / s, so it is expected that it is well below the top of the range M.2. with its PCI Express 3.0 x4 interface. Despite this, it is well above the 560 MB / s that represents the approximate limit of the SATA III interface , this SSD does not come to be the king of performance, but the king of the relationship between price and performance.
Kingston has assembled NAND 3D TLC memory chips, which are cheaper than MLC chips and also allow great performance, although their durability is somewhat less. These memories are accompanied by the three-channel Phison E8 controller, which promises read and write speeds of up to 1, 500 MB / s and 900 MB / s, respectively.
These figures make the Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB an SSD three times faster than those based on SATA, almost nothing! As for performance in 4K random operations, it reaches 100, 000 / 90, 000 IOPS in read and write.
The power consumption of this Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB is very low, with values of 0.011748 W when idle; 0.075623 W average; 0.458 W in reading and 0.908 W in writing. Its great energy efficiency makes it highly suitable for use on laptops, allowing to extend the battery life. The absence of moving parts makes it highly resistant to vibrations, being able to withstand 2.17 G in operation and 20G at rest.

Final words and conclusion about Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB
The Kingston SSDNow A1000 is a high performance SSD with a mid-range price. Its Phison E8 controller and NAND 3D TLC memories are what help cut the cost. As we already know, MLC memories have the longest durability and performance, but they are also the most expensive.
In our performance tests we have seen that it offers the Kingston promised speed of 1500 MB / s read and 900 MB / s write. The Crystal Disk Mark and Atto benchmark applications certify this.
Regarding temperatures, it has remained very cool at rest at 28ºC, while we have been surprised that its temperatures have not risen from 35ºC at maximum power. It should be noted that we had the air conditioning set at a constant 21ºC in the laboratory.
Currently we find the most basic version of 240 GB for 79.90 euros, the analyzed version of 480 GB for 139 euros and the top of the range of 960 GB for 276 euros. We believe that it is worth your purchase and it becomes an SSD that meets all three B's: Good, nice and cheap.
